December 24, 2015
On the morning of December 24, 2015 at
approximately 03:30 A.M. , Officers from the
North Park Police Department responded to a residential burglary in
progress at 1306 E 2300 N in North Logan. Officers arrived at the scene and
contacted the home owner who stated he confronted a masked male in his garage.
During the confrontation, a physical altercation ensued. The suspect then fled the scene. The home owner was armed and fired into the
ground to hasten the suspects retreat. The
home owner witnesses the suspect get into a Jeep and drive away. As the suspect
drove away, he struck a mailbox which damaged his vehicle. Officers of the
Logan City Police Department located the vehicle approximately a half hour
later in the Walmart parking lot and apprehended the suspect. The suspect is a James Dover Merritt of
Logan. He was booked into the Cache
County Jail on 2nd Felony Burglary, 3rd Felony Burglary
and Theft. The incident is being
reviewed by the Cache County Attorney’s office for possible additional charges.
