PRESS RELEASE

On July 18, 2016, at 12:59 Logan City Dispatch was advised by Preston Police Department in Idaho, there was a male individual that had presented himself in the Preston area with a handgun and threatened to attempt to have a police officer shoot him.  Preston Police investigated finding the individual's vehicle at a bus stop.  The bus line travels south into the Logan area.  Preston Police contacted Cache Valley Transit District (CVTD) to ascertain if an individual matching the description was on the bus.  The bus driver stated an individual matching that description just got off the bus at the North Logan 2200 North Main Street bus stop.  Officers from North Logan and surrounding areas responded finding a man matching the description sitting in a glass enclosed bus bench at 1600 North Main, North Logan.

Officers closed off Main Street and approached the individual in an un-marked police vehicle.  As officers got out of the vehicle to make contact, the order to “show your hands was given” at which time the individual retrieved a handgun from his waist band, immediately pointing it at his own head.  Without hesitation, the individual pulled the trigger, shooting himself in the head.

Officers tactically approached, gave aid, and summoned EMS.  The individual was transported to Logan Regional Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing; North Logan City Police Department has not yet released the individual’s name.
